Coronavirus cases surpass 120 mn worldwide; US tally nears 29.5 mn

New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 120.1 million, with over 2,660,000 deaths reported. Over 68.1 million patients have been cured of the deadly contagion, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

In the US, the total number of coronavirus infection has reached to more than 29.4 million, while the total number of COVID-19 fatalities have surpassed 5,35,000 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases have crossed the 11.5 million-mark and stand at 11,519,609 while the number of deaths has surged past 2,79,000.

Furthermore, Turkey recorded 15,503 new Covid-19 cases in the space of 24 hours, the highest daily rise this year, health ministry data indicated.

China has reported 13 new Covid cases on March 15, up from five cases a day earlier, the national health authority said on Tuesday. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in mainland China now stands at 90,062, while the death toll remained unchanged at 4,636.

The Norwegian capital, Oslo, has on Monday closed secondary schools and restricted the number of visitors to homes to two, as Covid case numbers rise.

Meanwhile, France, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Cyprus announced they will stop administering the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine pending an assessment by the EU’s medicine regulator. Spain said it will stop using the vaccine for at least two weeks.
