Coronavirus cases surpass 16.2 worldwide, death toll nears 6.50 lakh

New Delhi (NVI): The number of coronavirus infections has hit 16.2 million worldwide, while more than 6,48,000 people have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. More than 9.36 million patients have recovered.

In the US, the total number of infected cases have crossed 4.2 million while the death toll has nearly reached 1,47,000 in the country.

Meanwhile, Florida has overtaken New York in the number of coronavirus cases, according to the latest figures.

Brazil’s health ministry reported 24,578 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases Sunday, bringing the country’s total to 24,19,091. The ministry also reported 555 new deaths from the virus, bringing Brazil’s death toll to 87,004.

Mexico has reported 46,273 new coronavirus cases and 4,506 related deaths in the past seven days alone. Mexico has now recorded a total of 390,516 cases and 43,680 deaths.

In addition to this, North Korea has reported its first suspected case of Covid-19.

South Africa reported 11,233 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the country’s total confirmed case count to 4,45,433.

The Australian state of Victoria recorded 537 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, marking the nation’s worst day of the pandemic so far.

Meanwhile, China recorded 61 new coronavirus cases – the highest daily figure since April, propelled by clusters in three separate regions that have sparked fears of a fresh wave.
