New Delhi (NVI): More than 56.2 million people around the world have been confirmed to have the coronavirus, while the death toll is nearing 13,49,339, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. Over 36.1 million patients have recovered from the deadly disease globally.
In the US, the number of coronavirus infections have surpassed 11.5 million while the number of fatalities due to the deadly contagion have crossed 2,50,000.
Brazil’s coronavirus cases have exceeded 5.94 million while the number of deaths have surged past 1,67,000 in the country.
India has added another 45,576 new cases of the coronavirus, taking its total infections to 8.96 million, data from the health ministry said on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases in Germany increased by 22,609 to 8,55,916. The reported death toll rose by 251 to 13,370, the tally showed.
South Korea reported 343 new coronavirus cases by Wednesday midnight, bringing the country’s total infections to 29,654 with 498 deaths.
The country has kicked off a special two-week coronavirus prevention period on Thursday as the country’s daily infections tallies continued to mount ahead of highly competitive annual college entrance exams.
Furthermore, Mexico’s health ministry has reported 3,918 new confirmed coronavirus infections in the country and 502 deaths as of Wednesday, bringing the official totals to 1,015,071 cases and 99,528 dead.
The list of countries that have kept the novel coronavirus pandemic from their borders has reduced by one more: Samoa has recorded its first positive test for Covid-19.
