Covid alert: India starts testing of incoming travellers at airports

New Delhi: Random RT-PCR testing of incoming travellers at airports has begun in India, the government announced today after sounding an alert for Covid in the wake of resurgence of the infections in China and some other countries.

Speaking in Parliament, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the government was keeping an eye on the global Covid situation following the recent surge of cases in China and other parts of the world.

Pressing for increased vigilance, he urged people to take precautionary measures like wearing masks and maintaining social distance.

The central government has already issued an advisory to the states, asking them to be vigilant and ensure that Covid appropriate behaviour is followed by the people.

The government is especially issuing caution notes in view of the upcoming festivities of Christmas and New Year.

The alert has been sounded in the wake of exponential surge in Covid cases in China in the recent weeks.
