COVID cases in India climb to 85,940, death toll at 2,752

New Delhi (NVI): The total number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 85,940 while the death toll due to the virus has gone up to 2,752, according to the Union Health Ministry.

In the past 24 hours, 3,787 fresh COVID-19 infections and 105 more deaths were reported.

At least 30,152 patients have been cured of the virus or discharged, the ministry said.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state with 29,100 coronavirus cases and 1,068 deaths.

The other worst affected states are Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

The death toll in the national capital surged to 123. While another 3,528 patients in Delhi have recovered so far, healthy ministry data shows.

More than 2 million people have been tested for coronavirus so far, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has suggested to the Centre that buses, metro rail, autos and taxis be allowed to operate with strict social distancing norms after May 17.
