Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in India, the United States has asked its citizens to avoid travelling to India even if they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
“Because of the current situation in India even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to India. If you must travel to India, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travellers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands.” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in an advisory.
“If you are fully vaccinated, then do not have to get tested before leaving the United States, unless your destination requires it and you do not have to self-quarantine after you arrive in the United States”, CDC added.
India on Sunday recorded its highest ever spike in new Covid-19 cases at over 2.7 lakh. India is also struggling with an acute shortage in supplies of oxygen, availability of hospital beds, and essential drugs.
Earlier, Britain added India to the ‘red list,’ banning all arrivals from the country, except for British or Irish nationals.
