CRPF trooper who tried to stop Pulwama suicide bomber gets gallantry award posthumously

New Delhi (NVI): Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohan Lal, a brave CRPF officer who was among the 40 troopers killed in February 2019 Pulwama attack, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) posthumously, on Republic Day’s eve.

The CRPF ASI was the first one to spot an explosives-laden car moving alongside the CRPF convoy near Lethpora on Srinagar-Jammu Highway on February 14, 2019. Mohan Lal has been conferred the award for trying to stop and shoot the suicide bomber. The car had rammed into one of the CRPF vehicles in the convoy, claiming the lives of 40 CRPF troopers.

ASI Mohan Lal is among the 131 CRPF personnel who are being awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Republic Day 2021.

Over 40 CRPF troopers were killed when a suicide bomber rammed his car laden with explosives into a CRPF bus coming from Jammu to Srinagar near Lethpora on Srinagar-Jammu Highway on February 14, 2019. Terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad had claimed the responsibility for the attack.
