Cyclone in Arabian Sea, Fishermen asked not to go there

New Delhi: Fishermen were today warned against venturing into Northwest Arabian Sea till tomorrow morning in view of severe cyclonic storm ‘Shaheen’.

The cyclone lays centred about 1090 kms West-Northwest of Gujarat and is expected to cross Oman coast with a wind speed of up to 110 kms per hour, the IMD said while issuing the warning.

“As the system is moving away from the Indian coast, no further impact is likely over India,” it said.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Shaheen’ over Gulf of Oman & adjoining northwest Arabian Sea moved west-southwestwards with a speed of about about 15 kmph, during past 6 hours, lay centred at 1130 hrs IST of today over Gulf of Oman & adjoining northwest Arabian Sea, near latitude 24.1°N and longitude 58.6°E, about 1090 km west-northwest of Devbhoomi Dwarka (Gujarat), 240 km west-southwest of Chabahar Port (Iran) and 60 km north-northeast of Muscat (Oman).”

The system is very likely to continue to move west-southwestwards towards Oman coast and weaken gradually, the IMD said.

It is very likely to cross Oman coast between Long.56°E & 58°E, around 57°E (about 130 km west-northwest of Muscat) by early hours of 4th October 2021, as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90 – 100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.

Gulf of Oman and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea during next 06 hours, the IMD said.

It would gradually decrease becoming 95 – 105 Kmph gusting to 115 Kmph over Gulf of Oman from the night of today, reduce further becoming 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over north coastal Oman and adjoining Gulf of Oman from the early morning of October 4 and reduce substantially thereafter.

Sea condition will be high to very high over Gulf of Oman and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea till mid-night of today.

It would be high to very high over Gulf of Oman & adjoining north coastal Oman from early hours of 4th October during subsequent 06 hours, the IMD said.
