New Delhi (NVI): The air pollution levels in the national capital have further spiked and the air quality reached to ‘very poor’ category today.

This was mostly due to slow speed of wind, which led to the accumulation of pollutants in the atmosphere.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi stood at 316 at around 10 am, which falls in ‘very poor’ category.

In RK Puram, the AQI was recorded at 346, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. Similarly, the AQI in ITO was 285, 236 in Lodhi Road and 276 in Punjabi Bagh, the CPCB data shows.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’

On the other hand, the air quality in the NCR also very poor. On Wednesday morning, Gurugram and Noida recorded air quality in the ‘very poor’ category with an AQI of 295 and 375 respectively.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ air quality monitoring agency, SAFAR said that, the overall Delhi air quality on Tuesday was in the higher end of the moderate category as forecast.

SAFAR also predicted that, “AQI is likely to stay in the ‘moderate’ to lower end of ‘poor’ category for next two days. An increase in dust contribution is expected in the coming days. Poor AQI is forecast for March 19.”

Apart from this, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the minimum temperature settled at 17 degrees Celsius today and maximum temperature to remain at 33 degrees Celsius.
