Jammu, Nov 19 (NVI): The Directorate of School Education, Jammu has issued a stern circular addressing the growing concern of underage students driving vehicles.
“It has come to their attention that some minors are driving to schools or coaching centers, posing a risk to public safety and violating the Motor Vehicle Act,” reads the Circular issue, a copy of which lies with NVI.
The circular, directed at both government and private schools as well as coaching centers, mandates that all institutions strictly enforce as, school and coaching center authorities must ensure that no underage student is allowed entry while driving any motor vehicle, including two-wheelers or four-wheelers. Such students should be denied access and their parents must be notified.
It reads, Institutions must organize awareness programs in collaboration with traffic police to educate students and parents about the risks of underage driving, traffic rules, and age restrictions.
“During Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs), parents and guardians will be informed about the dangers and legal consequences of underage driving and their responsibilities. Schools and coaching centers should closely monitor parking areas and entry points to ensure no minor is driving a vehicle. Any violation should be immediately reported to the authorities, and regular coordination with traffic police is encouraged,” the circular reads further.
“All schools are instructed to activate their Road Safety and School Safety clubs to raise awareness among students. The Directorate has emphasized that strict adherence to these guidelines is necessary, and failure to comply will result in legal consequences under the Motor Vehicle Act, including the possible withdrawal of the institution’s recognition or registration. This circular aims to ensure the safety of students and the public while promoting responsible behavior among minors,” it reads further.—(News Vibes of India)
