Srinagar, Oct 19 (NVI): The District Administration Shopian on Saturday banned the sale of cigarettes to minors and within 100 yards of educational institutions in the district.
This move comes in accordance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce Production Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.
“In accordance with the law, all cigarette vendors in Shopian District are required to verify the age of their customers using valid identification, such as Aadhaar Cards, EPIC, or other documents containing the date of birth, to ensure compliance,” the order said, adding that any vendor found violating these provisions will face strict legal action.
It also said that the Additional District Development Commissioner, Shopian, has been designated as the nodal officer to oversee the implementation of these regulations.
“The public and vendors are urged to adhere to the order for the smooth enforcement of the law,” it added.—(News Vibes of India)
