Jammu, Jan 06 (NVI): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, and MoS PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, described the inauguration of a new chapter in Indian Railways in the Jammu division as a “historic milestone” that will redefine connectivity and development in Kashmir.
Speaking at an event in Jammu, he highlighted the transformative potential of the project for the region’s rural communities, tourism sector, and overall economic progress.
Dr. Singh reflected on the region’s decades-long wait for modern railway infrastructure, pointing out that the first train arrived in Jammu in 1972. He questioned the reasons behind the prolonged delay in extending this connectivity to Kashmir, asking, “Was it due to administrative inefficiency, a lack of political will, or resistance from certain quarters against integrating Kashmir with the rest of India?”
Crediting the successful completion of the project to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and leadership, Dr. Singh remarked, “It required PM Modi’s determination to transform what seemed like an impossible dream into a reality. This achievement is not just a technical marvel but a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to regional development and national integration.”
The minister also revisited key moments in the journey of this project, including a landmark event at Katra Railway Station in 2014, which he said reignited efforts to complete the ambitious venture. He acknowledged the numerous technical and logistical challenges encountered over the years but praised the current administration’s focus and resolve in ensuring its completion.
Dr. Singh expressed confidence in the project’s impact, noting that enhanced railway connectivity would open up new opportunities for businesses, boost tourism, and create jobs, particularly in rural areas. “This is a historic day not only for Kashmir but for the entire nation. Integrating this region into India’s railway network will unlock unprecedented avenues for development and prosperity,” he stated.
He concluded by encouraging the people of Jammu and Kashmir to take full advantage of the infrastructure, emphasizing that the project symbolizes a new era of progress and integration for J&K (News Vibes of India)
