Srinagar, May 2 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said drug trafficking in the Union Territory is linked to terrorism and voiced concern over the growing number of youths falling prey to substance abuse.
Addressing reporters, Sinha said the administration has launched a 100-day anti-drug campaign with a focused strategy to curb the menace.
He said the campaign is being implemented in phases, including dismantling the drug supply chain, spreading awareness at the grassroots level, and providing treatment and rehabilitation to those affected.
“Many young boys and girls are falling prey to drugs, which is a matter of serious concern. The drug racket here is linked to terrorism,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He added that efforts are underway to strengthen de-addiction facilities and put in place a long-term rehabilitation mechanism, including monitoring recovered individuals and providing continued support.
Sinha said the campaign has received support from various sections of society and appealed for greater public participation.
He also urged people to join a padyatra scheduled from Lal Chowk on Sunday as part of the ongoing anti-drug initiative.
Officials said the campaign aims to enhance awareness, curb drug trafficking and ensure effective rehabilitation measures across Jammu and Kashmir.(NVI)
