New Delhi, Aug 07(NVI) A delegation of the Election Commission of India (ECI) will undertake a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from tomorrow, in an indication that the poll body is planning to hold the much-awaited Assembly elections in the Union Territory.
On the first of the visit, the officials of the ECI will be in Srinagar where they will meet representatives of various regional & national political parties.
They will also meet the Deputy Commissioners and senior officials of the Security forces to assess the security situation.
The next day, the delegation will have a meeting with the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police.
Later, the delegation will fly to Jammu where again it will hold meeting with various stakeholders.
A press conference is also planned before the delegation returns to Delhi.
Jammu and Kashmir does not have an elected government since June 2018 when the Assembly was dissolved and central rule imposed.
There has been persistent demand by all the political parties of Jammu and Kashmir for the Assembly elections and the Supreme Court of India has asked the central government to hold these polls by the end of September this year. (NVI)
