Elderly man dies due to COVID in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 25 (NVI): An elderly person died today because of coronavirus in SKIMS hospital on outskirts of Srinagar, raising the death toll in J&K to six.

Coordinator for Coronavirus at SKIMS hospital Bemina, Dr Nouman Nazir told NVI that an elderly man from Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, who was tested positive and was being treated at the hospital, died today morning.

“He was 72-year old and was admitted in the hospital on April 13. This morning his condition deteriorated and he succumbed at around 10 am,” Dr Nazir said.

The deceased was a resident of Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. “We had taken his samples and he had tested positive for the virus,” Dr Nazir said.

Jammu and Kashmir had recorded first death due to Covid-19 on March 25 when a 65-year-old Tableegi preacher from Hyderpora area of Srinagar succumbed to the novel coronavirus infection at Chest Diseases hospital. Then, on March 29, a 50-year-old man from Tangmarg area of Baramulla district had passed away at Chest Diseases hospital.

Earlier this month, a 54-year-old Covid-19 patient, from Bandipora, had died at SMHS hospital.

Later, on April 8, a 61-year-old lady from Udhampur died at GMC, Jammu. Then, a 70-year-old man from Arampora, Sopore in Baramulal district died at Chest Disease hospital. The number of Covid-19 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir has now surged past 400-mark with five deaths reported so far. All the deceased were Covid-19 positive patients.
