New Delhi (NVI): A fake order issued in the name of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has claimed that exchange facility for demonetized currency notes for foreign citizens has been extended.

Dismissing the claim, the government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check wing said no such order has been issued by the apex bank and that the exchange facility for Indian demonetized currency notes for foreign citizens ended in 2017.

Taking to Twitter, the PIB said, “A #FAKE order issued in the name of RBI claims that the exchange facility for Indian demonetized currency notes for foreign citizens has been further extended. #PIBFactCheck The exchange facility for Indian demonetized currency notes for foreign citizens ended in 2017.”

The Press Information Bureau launched this fact-checking unit in December 2019, to identify misinformation related to the government’s policies and schemes that are circulating on various social media platforms.
