New Delhi (NVI): A WhatsApp message has claimed that journalists will be exempted from paying toll tax at every toll plaza in the country for which ID proof will be needed.

Dismissing the claims, the government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check wing said the message was fake.

It further stated that no such announcement has been made by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

“In a #WhatsApp message, it is being claimed that journalists will get exemption on toll tax at all toll plazas in India, for which the ID card will have to be shown. #PIBFactCheck: This claim is # fake. @MORTHIndia has not given any such order,” PIB tweeted.

The Press Information Bureau launched this fact-checking unit in December 2019, to identify misinformation related to the government’s policies and schemes that are circulating on various social media platforms.
