Kulgam, October 25 (NVI): After four days of firefighting efforts, the forest fire in the Brinal Lammer forest belt of Kulgam district is nearly under control.
Forest Ranger Suhail Ahmad, overseeing the operation, said, “We have contained almost 100% of the fire.”
Ahmad emphasized the importance of responsible behavior from the local population, urging them to refrain from setting fires in forested areas. “These fires disrupt wildlife habitats, increasing the risk of wild animals migrating from upper to lower reaches, which can pose safety risks to local communities,” he said.
A mop-up operation is currently underway to prevent any reoccurrence and ensure that the area is secured. Local authorities and firefighting teams have been working to control the blaze, which has threatened the region’s biodiversity.
Officials are monitoring the area to prevent further flare-ups as efforts continue to protect the ecosystem and nearby communities.—(News Vibes of India)
