New Delhi (NVI) : The first consignment of medical supplies from Canada reached here this after, while another is expected to arrive next week.
The Canadian CC-150 Polaris aircraft, deployed by Canadian Armed Forces, brought 25,000 vials of the antiviral remdesivir (brand name Veklury) and 50 ventilators that will help deal with the second wave of the pandemic in India, the Canadian High Commission in Delhi said.
Another aircraft with more medical supplies from Canada is on its way and will arrive next week, it added.
“In this hour of need, Canada stands with our friend and partner India in its fight against COVID-19. We at the High Commission of Canada are heartbroken to see the devastating impact the pandemic is having on India, and we are working closely with our Indian partners to facilitate the delivery of essential medical supplies from Canada,” Canadian High Commissioner to India Nadir Patel said.
“These supplies are in addition to the $10 million that Canada is providing to the Indian Red Cross for the purchase of urgently needed medical equipment to support heroic local lifesaving efforts,” he said.
“I assure you that Canada will continue to work tirelessly together with India to overcome this global challenge,” the High Commissioner added.
