Five more bodies found in Karachi; Govt orders probe into mysterious deaths

Karachi, June 26: Five more bodies were recovered from across Karachi, taking the number of abandoned bodies found in three days to 22. The Sindh government has ordered an immediate probe to determine the causes behind the ‘mysterious deaths’ in Karachi.

A government spokesperson said the five dead bodies were brought from Manghopir, Morripur, Orangi, Soldier Bazar and Gulshan Mimar.

Three of the people were drug addicts. No one has come forward to claim the bodies so far.

On Monday, rescue services found seven bodies from different areas of the city.

According to rescue officials, most of the individuals were believed to be drug addicts and died of the extreme heatwave in the city. The ages of the deceased persons ranging from 35 to 60 years.

The bodies were found in Jama Cloth Market, Golimar, Super Highway, Gulistan-e-Johar, Federal B Area and Landhi, while a tortured body was found near Surjani Town’s Fatima Society.

The bodies were shifted to police stations and then to the morgue for further action.

On Sunday, 10 dead bodies were found in different areas of Karachi in mysterious circumstances.

Expressing deep grief and regret over the ‘mysterious deaths’ in Karachi, the Interior Minister of Sindh – Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, has ordered an immediate investigation to find the cause of the incidents.

“K-Electric will be held accountable if the inquiry reveals prolonged load shedding as a primary cause of these deaths”, the interior minister stated.

He said that murder charges would be filed against KE if the inquiry reveals prolonged load shedding as a primary cause of these deaths.

Efforts are underway to identify the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Rescue officials continue to monitor the situation as investigations proceed.
