Five terrorists held in Delhi's Shakarpur, major narco-terror module busted

New Delhi (NVI): The Special Cell of Delhi Police today busted a major Pakistan-based narco-terror module with the arrest of five terrorists in East Delhi’s Shakarpur area. They were captured by the police after an encounter.

Two of the five arrested persons are from Punjab and the rest three from Kashmir.

The two men from Punjab- Gurjeet and Sukhdeep had shot dead Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Sandhu on October 16 this year in Punjab, police said. Gurjeet is from Lakhanpal village in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district and Sukhdeep from Kharl village under Dina Nagar police station in the same district.

They are linked with Punjab gangster Sukh Bhikhariwal who is absconding.

Yesterday, both were to receive drug consignment from the three Kashmiri terrorists, police said.

“The three persons from J&K along with above mentioned two Punjabi gangsters are part of a Pak based and ISI backed drug trafficking syndicate and were also associated with absconding gangster Sukh Bhikhariwal,” they said.

Earlier today, DCP of Delhi Police’s Special Cell Pramod Kushwaha said, “Five persons apprehended following an exchange of fire in Shakarpur area of Delhi this morning. Two of them are from Punjab and three from Kashmir.”

Weapons and other incriminating materials recovered, Kushwaha added.

“The group was backed by ISI for narco-terrorism. The name of the terror organisation is yet to be confirmed,” according to a statement from Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, the city police have stepped up vigil and intensified checks following the arrest of terrorists.

The development comes almost 20 days after a team of Delhi Police busted a major terror plot and nabbed two Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists from Khan Market area of the national capital.
