New Delhi (NVI): Delhi witnessed a hike in petrol and diesel prices today after the Delhi government raised Value Added Tax (VAT) on the two fuels.

Petrol will be costlier by Rs 1.67 per litre now and diesel by Rs 7.10 litre.

This comes a day after the government imposed a 70 per cent ‘Special Corona Fee’ on liquor.

The fuel prices have been hiked to boost the government revenue which has been hit since the lockdown. A huge revenue is generated by the sale of fuel and liquor which contributes to the overall economy.

The finance department of the Delhi government issued an order late last night. “70 per cent of the maximum retail price on all categories of liquor sold through retail licensees for consumption off the premises,” the order signed by the deputy secretary read.
