Gen Naravane receives Guard of Honour in UAE

New Delhi (NVI): Army Chief General MM Naravane, who is on a six-day tour of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, today received Guard of Honour at Land Forces Headquarters in UAE, becoming the first Indian Army chief to have received the honour in the gulf nation.

Pertinent to mention here that this is first-ever visit by a head of the Indian Army to the two strategically important Gulf countries.

Gen. Naravane also held talks with Saudi Commander General Fahd Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutir on bilateral defence cooperation.

“General MM Naravane #COAS received a Guard of Honour at HQ Royal Saudi #LandForces. #COAS discussed issues of bilateral defence cooperation with General Fahd Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutir, Commander Royal Saudi Land Forces,” the Indian Army said in a tweet.

The Army chief’s visit to the UAE aims to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.

The Indian Army chief’s visit to UAE and Saudi Arabia comes amid heightened tensions with China over border stand-off in Eastern Ladakh.

His visit also comes amid normalisation of Israel’s relations with several Arab countries as well as situation arising out of the assassination of Iran’s top nuclear weapons scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.
