New Delhi (NVI): The global coronavirus death toll has now surpassed 1,02,000, according to John Hopkins University data.
The total number of infected cases in the world has crossed over 1.6 million and more than 3,72,000 people have recovered from the contagion.
In addition to this, Italy has registered the highest number of COVID-19 deaths, more than 18,800, while US has reported the majority of confirmed infections.
The United States reported 2,108 coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest daily increase in the country since the outbreak began, pushing the total US death toll to 18,777, with the total number of positive cases crossing 5,01,000.
As the total number of positive cases are nearing 2 million, the WHO has urged caution to countries considering easing restrictions put in place to stem the outbreak.
“The way down could be as dangerous as the way up if not managed properly,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
