Srinagar, Jan 07 (NVI): In a routine winter exercise aimed at ensuring the safety of the slopes, a controlled blasting operation was conducted today at Afarwat in Gulmarg that resulted in an avalanche.
The operation, overseen by the Snow Safety Officer and his team, resulted in a planned avalanche, executed as part of ongoing efforts to prepare the slopes and minimize potential avalanche risks in the future.
According to the Assistant Director of Tourism in Gulmarg, this controlled blasting is a well-established practice that has been carried out for years during the winter season to maintain the safety and usability of the region’s slopes. The authorities have assured the public and visitors that there is no cause for concern, as the activity was carefully managed and executed in a controlled environment.
Such measures are critical in ensuring that the popular skiing destination remains safe for both tourists and locals during the peak winter season. Controlled avalanches help release accumulated snow and reduce the chances of unanticipated natural avalanches, which could pose significant risks.
The tourism department continues to prioritize the safety of visitors while maintaining the charm and functionality of Gulmarg’s slopes, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all (News Vibes of India)
