Shopian/Kulgam, Sep 02 (NVI): A strong windstorm accompanied by a hailstorm lashed several villages in the Shopian and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir, leaving a trail of destruction, especially to the apple orchards, locals said.
Speaking to News Vibes of India (NVI), the locals said a hailstorm hit areas including Kapran, Rawalpora, Nowgam, Kachdoora, Chak Kachdoora, Vehil, and their surroundings in the Shopian district, causing extensive damage to the crops, particularly apples.
“These apple orchards are our lifeline. The hailstorm has devastated our entire crop, leaving us in deep distress,” said Ghulam Rasool, a farmer from Rawalpora. He added we urge the authorities to visit our villages, assess the damage, and provide us with compensation as soon as possible.
In the meanwhile, they added that these are the major sources of income for the farmers in these areas. They expressed concern over the enormous loss to their livelihoods and urged the authorities to take immediate cognizance of the damages and arrange compensation for the losses. (News Vibes of India)
