Srinagar, Dec 11(NVI): The High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), Gulmarg, commemorated its Platinum Jubilee, celebrating 75 years of unparalleled service in training and operational excellence in mountain warfare, snowbound regions and glaciated terrains.
Defence spokesman in Srinagar in a statement issued here said that established in 1948 as the Army Ski Training School, HAWS has evolved into a world-class institution, renowned for its specialized combat training for the Indian Army, Central Paramilitary Forces, special missions, and personnel from friendly nations.
The grand event highlighted HAWS’ rich legacy, including its instrumental roles in historic military operations such as Operation Meghdoot (1984) and Operation Vijay (1999). It paid tribute to the “Mountain Warriors” whose courage and skill have upheld the school’s ethos while safeguarding India’s national interests.
Widely referred to as the “White Devils,” HAWS holds a significant place in military history and adventure sports, with an illustrious record of gallantry awards, commendation plaques, and podium finishes in mountaineering and winter sports.
The Platinum Jubilee celebration honored the institution’s heroes, celebrated its remarkable legacy, and reaffirmed its commitment to excellence in military training. With unmatched expertise in high-altitude operations, HAWS remains a cornerstone of India’s defense preparedness and a global leader in mountain warfare training.
