Heavy rains likely over North, East India for next 4 days

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in northern and eastern parts of India over the next three to four days under the influence of the western disturbance.

According to IMD, “Cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan & neighbourhood in lower & middle tropospheric levels and induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab & neighbourhood at lower tropospheric levels and another approaching Western Disturbance from February 25, 2022,” the IMD said.

“Under this influence of Western disturbances, fairly widespread to widespread moderate rainfall/snowfall very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad & Himachal Pradesh during next 24 hours and scattered rainfall/snowfall for subsequent three days,” the IMD said.

Isolated and scattered rainfall/snowfall likely over Uttarakhand during next 4 days.

The IMD has also predicted isolated thunderstorms & lightning activity over the region during the next 24 hours, it said.

Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is also likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad today, the IMD said.

Isolated light rainfall very likely over Punjab, north Haryana & Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh during next 4 days; and over Delhi and East Uttar Pradesh on 25th & 26th February 2022, it said.

Parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal & Sikkim are also likely to witness isolated to scattered light rainfall along with thunderstorms & lightning activity over the region on February 24th & 25th.

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 24th & 26th February with thunderstorm & lightning activity over the region on 25th February, the IMD said.

A fresh Western Disturbance is very likely to influence northwest India from 28th February 2022.

It is very likely to cause scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall over Western Himalayan Region from 28th February to 02nd March 2022 and light rainfall over adjoining plains of northwest India on 01st & 02nd March 2022, the IMD said.

Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely on 27th February 2022.
