Heavy showers to continue in parts of South India over the next 24 hours: IMD

New Delhi (NVI): As monsoon rains batter southern parts of the country, Kerala will continue to experience heavy showers during the next 24 hours, Indian Meteorological Department said.

Coastal and interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will experience similar conditions for the next 3 days, according to IMD.

In addition to this, red and orange alerts have been issued in various districts of monsoon hit Kerala.

For today, a red alert has been issued in Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad & Kannur districts. For August 9, orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alapuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kasargod districts.

Furthermore, water levels continue to rise in many rivers in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. State Authorities in Tamil Nadu have issued a red alert for people in and around Coimbatore district’s Mettupalayam as 30,000 cusecs of surplus water was released into the Bhavani river from the Pillur dam, according to media reports.

IMD has also predicted rainfall activity over northwest India to likely increase from August 9 onwards with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places and adjoining plains.
