Jammu: Terrorists, supported by the Pakistani establishment, are planning to carry out a major strike on some “soft target” in Jammu and Kashmir around the time of G20 meeting to be held in Srinagar from May 22 to 24, according to intelligence reports.

In the wake of these inputs, a high alert has been sounded in entire Jammu and Kashmir to thwart such evil designs.

Specifically, Army schools in the entire Jammu region have been ordered to remain shut till May 25 and extra vigil has been mounted in military residential areas.

G20, a grouping of the world’s most industrialised nations including India, the US, UK, France, Germany and Russia, is currently being chaired by India for a year beginning December last year.

During its Presidency which will continue till the Summit in September, India is hosting meetings on various themes in different cities.

Accordingly, a meeting on Tourism is slated to be held in Srinagar, for which preparations are in full swing matching the magnitude of the event.

“If terrorists actually carry out any attack coinciding with the event, it will expose Pakistan before the world community and strengthen India’s stand that Islamabad is responsible for bloodshed in Kashmir,” a strategic expert told NVI today.

Some terrorists have already carried out two attacks in Poonch and Rajouri border districts of Jammu region over the last 3 weeks, resulting in the killing of 10 soldiers.

While one of the terrorists has been killed by the Army in Rajouri last week, rest of the unknown number of terrorists continue to be at large.

Significantly, two masked unknown people have reportedly been sighted in Dangri village of Rajouri, where 7 people had been killed by terrorists on January 1 and 2, this year.

The security forces have been carrying out combing operations in the dense forests of Rajouri and Poonch to track down the terrorists who remain elusive.

A number of suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have been questioned or detained in connection with the recent terror attacks in Poonch and Rajouri, and on the basis of that, it has been learnt that the terrorists are planning something big.

PAFF, a shadowy group believed to be a front for Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has already threatened that all efforts would be made to disrupt the G20 meeting scheduled in Srinagar.

The open threat by PAFF is in line with Pakistan’s objections to Srinagar being the venue of G20 meeting.

India has already dismissed Pakistan’s objections, saying Islamabad has no locus to make any comment on G20 meetings as it has nothing to with the grouping.

Pakistan is not a member of G20 because it does not qualify to be a part of the elite grouping.
