New Delhi (NVI): In yet another case of religious persecution in Muslim-majority Bangladesh, a Hindu minority family was brutally attacked in Barguna district and their land was illegally grabbed by some local land encroachers.

The Hindu family belongs to Kalibari village of Kalmegha union in Patharghata upazila in Barguna.

According to a news report, one land mafia identified as GM Khalil and his accomplices launched an attack on a Hindu resident of the village, Gobinda Shil and his family, and illegally prohibited them from cultivating their own land.

The issue started after Gobinda Shil sold a portion of his land to Khalil. A few days later, Khalil claimed ownership of Shil’s entire land and tried to occupy the whole area. Following this, the Muslims started cultivating Shil’s land illegally in continuation of the attempt to occupy, as per the report.

The issue then snowballed into a violent face-off between the two families on January 31, regarding the illegal cultivation. Gobinda Shil’s family was brutally attacked by an armed group led by Khalil, his nephew Alamin, his son Tanvir, and another nephew Salman. As per the report, the attackers tried to kill Shil’s family by beating them severely with rods, hockey sticks and hacking them to death with a large knife.

In the attack, Gobinda Shil, his wife Manju Rani, his nephew Hare Krishna Shil and his son Gautam Chandra Shil were seriously injured.

The perpetrators of the attack also threatened to kick the Hindu family out of the country.

Shockingly, the accused were arrested, but soon released on bail.

Gobinda Shil and his family has been receiving continuous threats and the situation is getting more tense as the accused are now threatening to kill the girls of Hindu family. According to the report, the injured are being treated in hospital, but Gobinda Shil’s family is still living in fear and insecurity.
