Srinagar, Dec 19 (NVI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah today reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir during a high-level security review meeting held in the national capital.

Sources privy to the meeting said the meeting was convened to assess the security situation in the region and chalk out future strategies for ensuring long-term peace and stability.

The meeting was attended by top officials, including Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Chief Secretary of J&K Atal Dulloo, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and heads of other security agencies.

In his address, Shah stressed on the need to maintain momentum in the fight against terrorism, noting that significant progress had been made in dismantling the terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. “The ecosystem of terrorism in J&K has almost been eradicated, and the region is witnessing unprecedented progress. Terror incidents, infiltration attempts, and youth recruitment into terrorist groups have seen a sharp decline,” Shah said.

He directed security agencies to enhance coordination and intensify operations under the ‘Area Domination Plan’ and ‘Zero Terror Plan.’ These initiatives aim to establish complete security control, leaving no space for terror activities in the region. Shah also called for proactive measures to address emerging challenges, especially along the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border.

Shah commended the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their overwhelming participation in the recent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. “The massive turnout in elections shows the growing trust of the people in India’s democratic processes. This is a clear rejection of violence and a positive step toward a peaceful and progressive Jammu and Kashmir,” he remarked.

The meeting also reviewed ongoing efforts to boost development and improve governance in the region. Shah highlighted the importance of ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach every corner of J&K, particularly remote and underserved areas.

This was the first major security review meeting following the Assembly elections, reflecting the government’s intent to integrate security with development. Shah stressed the need for a sustained focus on law enforcement, counterterrorism measures, and public outreach programs.

Officials discussed strategies to strengthen local governance, improve border security, and promote economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah directed them to prioritize community engagement and development initiatives to counter extremist narratives and foster a sense of security and inclusion among the people.

The meeting underscores the central government’s dual approach of ensuring security and driving development in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to pave the way for lasting peace in the region. With the sustained efforts of security forces and greater public involvement, the government remains optimistic about achieving its vision of a terror-free and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
