Jammu (NVI): A major tragedy was averted today as a 2.5 kg IED (Improvised Explosive Device) was recovered from an unclaimed motorcycle in Mendhar area of Poonch district in J&K and destroyed by the Bomb Disposal Squad of the Indian Army.

According to J&K Police, the unclaimed two-wheeler on BG Road in Mendhar with some “IED-type object” found adjacent to it triggered panic in the area following which authorities closed Mendhar-Gohlad road and a team of Bomb Disposal Squad was rushed to the spot.

“During the intervening night of 9 and 10 January, one Pulser motorcycle (JK02BP/7298) was found in suspicious conditions at Pankha (Mendhar Gohlad) road, about 3 kilometers from Mendhar. The area has been cordoned off,” an official told NVI earlier.

SDPO Mendhar ZA Jafri said that a suspicious object was found along with the bike and that the BDS squad was called while the road was closed.
