IMD predicts ‘cold wave’ over Delhi, Pb and Haryana for next 2 days

New Delhi (NVI): The cold wave conditions are very likely to be formed over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and other regions in the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Met department in its weather bulletin said, “Cold wave conditions very likely in some pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during the next two days.”

“Dense fog in isolated pockets very likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan during morning hours of 17 and 18 December,” IMD said.

Besides, under the influence of an easterly wave, scattered to fairly widespread rain or thundershowers very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe and Lakshadweep area during the next four days, IMD added.

Meanwhile, the Met department has also forecast a fall in minimum temperatures by two to three degrees Celsius over parts of the plains of northwest India and Maharashtra during the next two to three days.

IMD has declared cold wave in Delhi as icy winds blowing from the snow-covered western Himalayas brought the minimum temperature down sharply.

In addition, the minimum temperature is likely to remain around five degrees Celsius till Friday and the maximum temperature has also dipped to 18.5 degrees, more than four degrees below normal, the IMD bulletin read.

The Met department took to Twitter in this regard and wrote, “Cold wave conditions in some pockets with severe cold wave conditions in isolated pockets over West Rajasthan…cold wave conditions in isolated pockets over south Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. Today, Lowest Minimum Temperature of 0.5 degrees was recorded over Sikar (East Rajasthan).”

However, the IMD declares a cold wave when the minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius or below and is 4.5 degrees less than normal for two straight days.
