IMD predicts heavy rainfall in many parts of India for next 5 days

New Delhi: Parts of Central, Northwest and west coast region of India are likely to witness heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days as the active monsoon conditions are very likely to prevail over these regions from July 5-8.

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Gujarat State, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha during next 5 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

According to IMD, “The Low-Pressure Area now lies over central parts of Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height.”

“The monsoon trough is active and south of its normal position. An off-shore trough at mean sea level runs from Gujarat coast to Maharashtra coast.

A cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood extending up to mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height.

Under this influence, isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Telangana on 05th, 08th & 09th; Marathwada during 05th- 08th; Coastal Karnataka during 07th-09th; South Interior Karnataka & Kerala & Mahe during 06th-09th; Odisha during 06th-08th and over East Madhya Pradesh during 05th-09th July 2022, it said.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Gujarat region on 06th, 07th & 09th; Saurashtra & Kutch during 05th-08th; Konkan & Goa & Madhya Maharashtra on 09th; Coastal Karnataka on 05th & 06th; South Interior Karnataka on 05th; Kerala & Mahe on 05th; West Madhya Pradesh on 05th & 08th; Vidarbha on 05th, 08th & 09th; Chhattisgarh on 07th & 08th and over Odisha on 05th & 09th July, 2022.

Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall also likely over Konkan & Goa during 05th-08th and isolated extremely heavy rainfall likely over south Gujarat Region on 05th & 08th and over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during 05th-08th July, 2022.

Scattered/fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and isolated/scattered rainfall activity over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during next 5 days with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam during 05th-08th and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on 06th & 07th. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on 05th July, 2022.

The IMD further predicted fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh during the next 5 days.

Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad on 05th; Himachal Pradesh on 05th, 07th-09th & Uttarakhand during 07th-19th July, 2022, it said.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Himachal Pradesh on 06th and over Uttarakhand on 05th & 06th July, 2022.

Isolated/scattered rainfall activity is very likely over Uttar Pradesh during the next 5 days and over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi and Rajasthan during the next 48 hours and fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated thunderstorm/lightning is likely over the region during 07th-09th July, 2022.

Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh – Delhi during 07th-09th; West Uttar Pradesh on 09th; East Rajasthan on 06th and over West Rajasthan on 05th & 07th July, 2022.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over West Rajasthan on 08th & 09th and over East Rajasthan on 05th & during 07th-09th July, 2022.
