IMD predicts heavy rainfall over many parts of India

New Delhi: Several parts of East, Central, North and South India are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall and expected to witness thunderstorms along with lightning and winds exceeding up to 60 Kmph, the IMD said today.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls very likely at isolated places over Gujarat.”

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan and Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, north Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms along with lightning & gusty winds (40-50 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

“Lightning likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Kerala & Mahe,“ the IMD said.

Strong wind (speed 40-50 kmph to gusting 60 kmph) is very likely over Southwest & Westcentral Arabian Sea.

Squally weather (wind speed 40-50 kmph to
gusting 60 kmph) very likely Northeast Arabian Sea along & off Gujarat-Maharashtra coasts and Central & Southeast Bay of Bengal & south Andaman Sea, the IMD said.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
