New Delhi (NVI): The ambitious mega Bharatmala project, which envisages development of about 34,800 km length of Economic Corridors touching all four corners of the country, is getting renewed push in down south with 18% of the proposed 6-lane Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway already complete.
“The work for 6-lane of Bangalore-Nidagatta-Mysore road stretch has already been awarded in two packages in February, 2018. Physical progress of about 18% has been achieved,” the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
In a written reply, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, however, informed that the appointed date for work of 6-lane of Nidagatta-Mysore section has not been declared.
As on date about 85% land acquisition has been completed with target for completion in December, 2019.
The total cost of the project is approximately Rs. 7,400 crore out of which an amount of about Rs. 2,270 has already been expended, an official statement said.
The Bharatmala Pariyojana-Phase 1, along with Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) and North-South and East-West (NS-EW) Corridors are expected to carry majority of the Freight Traffic on roads.
The proposed economic corridors under Bharatmala are expected to generate 14.2 crore man-days of employment, the Parliament was informed Monday. The project has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 5.35 lakh crore.
