Srinagar, Dec 02(NVI): For the first time, Kashmir’s head priest Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today publicly praised the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their recent crackdown on the inter-State drug network and seizure of properties belonging to drug peddlers.

This marks the first time in his lifetime that Mirwaiz has extended such recognition to the police.

Mirwaiz’s unequivocally commended the police’s diligent efforts in addressing the drug menace that has plagued the region.

Addressing a function in Srinagar, Mirwaiz expressed that the people of Kashmir would not hesitate to support and praise “any good work done by the police” underscoring that positive actions should be acknowledged regardless of the political context. ” I express my gratitude to the police for its drive against drugs,” he said. ” It’s time to crack and break the inter State drug racket.”

The Mirwaiz’s remarks are especially striking given his long-standing criticism of government institutions in the past. His newfound acknowledgment comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is grappling with rising drug-related issues, with authorities intensifying efforts to curb the growing drug trade and its devastating impact on the youth of the region.
