India, Brazil sign 15 MoUs; focus on boosting bilateral trade

New Delhi (NVI): As many as 15 MoUs were signed between Brazil and India today in various fields including bioenergy, cybersecurity, health and medicine among others, even as both the sides focussed on enhancing bilateral trade between the two economies.

The MoUs were signed following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

The Brazilian President will be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day Parade.

During the meeting, both the leaders agreed that there exist great synergies between India and Brazil, world’s two developing economies, said Raveesh Kumar, MEA spokesperson.

Prime Minister Modi identified biotechnology, health, low carbon technology and research in earth sciences as specific areas of cooperation under S&T (Science and Technology). Both leaders also welcomed the signature of the Programme of Cooperation in S&T for 2020-2023, Kumar added.

On the occasion, PM Modi said on Twitter, “To enhance our strategic partnership, a detailed action plan has been prepared. The year 2023 will mark the platinum jubilee of the relations between the two countries.”

Apart from Bioenergy Cooperation and cybersecurity, MoUs were signed for cooperation in the field of Oil and Natural Gas, Investment Cooperation and Facilitation Treaty, Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, and Early Childhood.

Besides, the AYUSH Ministry and Health Ministry of Brazil signed an MoU on cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy. V Muraleedharan, MoS for External Affairs and Ernesto Araújo, Brazil Minister of Foreign Affairs signed agreements in this regard and exchanged the memorandums.

Earlier in the day, Bolsonaro was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
