New Delhi (NVI): On the occasion of 71st Republic Day today, Rajpath, the ceremonial boulevard in the National Capital came alive, as contingents of soldiers marched on the beats of brass bands and colorful tableaux showcased the cultural diversity of the country.

As many as 22 tableaux took part in the gala parade that also showcased India’s military might and socio-economic progress. The colorful tableaus from different Indian states left the audience mesmerized with their vibrant themes and folk art.

The state-of-the-art fighter aircraft, battle tanks, and advanced missile systems turned heads at the Republic Day Parade as President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro looked on, among other dignitaries present. The Brazilian President is the Chief guest at the parade this year.

In a first, this Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to martyrs at the newly built National War Memorial instead of Amar Jawan Jyoti under the India Gate arch.

This day is celebrated to honor the historic date on which the Constitution of India came into effect from 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.
