Leh, Oct 30 (NVI): The disengagement between Indian and Chinese forces in eastern Ladakh’s Depsang and Demchok plains has been completed, ending a military standoff after four and a half years of military standoff.
After this, the two sides plan to exchange sweets tomorrow on the occasion of Diwali, sources said today.
On October 21, India announced an agreement with China regarding patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), signaling progress in resolving the military standoff that began after clashes in Galwan Valley in June 2020.
“Disengagement is complete. Talks will continue at local commanders’ level, and patrolling will commence soon,” said defense sources. This indicates that both Indian and Chinese forces have successfully withdrawn from their forward positions, easing tensions in the region.
“Local commanders, who are responsible for operational decisions, will engage in discussions to facilitate further coordination and ensure stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC),” the sources said.
They also noted that patrolling in the areas will begin shortly, which is a significant step towards normalizing conditions.
Also, the final verification process is ongoing to ensure that both sides adhere to the terms of the agreement reached on October 21.
This verification involves confirming the withdrawal of troops and dismantling of temporary structures that were established during the military standoff.
The goal is to establish a clear understanding and to prevent any potential misunderstandings or escalations in the future, the sources added.
The matter has been resolved after four and a half years of military standoff between Indian and Chinese forces.
Following a series of tensions that escalated after the clashes in Galwan Valley in June 2020, both nations have engaged in extensive negotiations to address border issues.—(News Vibes of India)
