India, China to hold 70 activities to mark 70th anniv of diplomatic ties

New Delhi (NVI):  Taking forward the understanding reached between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the recent Mamallapuram informal summit, India and China have decided to commemorate 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in a big way through 70 celebratory activities.

During the second informal summit on October 11-12 in Mamallapuram, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping had decided to take forward the relations between both the countries by marking 70th anniversary in the year 2020-2021.

The decided activities will deepen people-to-people exchanges between the two countries at all levels, including their respective legislatures, businesses, academics, cultural and youth organisations as well as the defence forces, an official statement said.

The two sides will also engage in cooperative projects in studying ancient maritime links between both the countries through the establishment of sister-state relations between Tamil Nadu and Fujian Province, exploring the possibility of establishing an academy to study links between Tamil Nadu and Fujian Province, conducting research on maritime links between India and China in view of our extensive contacts over the centuries and a conference on a ship voyage that will trace the historic connect between the two civilizations, said an official statement.

Some major activities which both sides have decided to organise including parliamentary exchanges. The two sides have also decided to jointly flag-off the first batch of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2020 in India, jointly produce and broadcast a documentary dedicated to the Yatra and to hold a special Yatra for photographers from both countries and organise a photo exhibition in India, the official statement said.

To enhance economic and trade relations, the Chinese side decided to hold a China-India Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum along with holding the 2nd China-India Drug Regulation Meeting in India and the Indian side has decided to organize a special event on pharmaceuticals in China.

Both sides will hold business seminars and trade promotion for products, including agricultural products, in each other’s country while Chinese side decided to hold an International Xuanzang Forum in China, advancing Xuanzang-related studies, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Chinese side will also hold a media seminar entitled “A journey of 70 Years: presenting the story of China-India relations in the age of media convergence” in India and the translations of Chinese and Indian classics and contemporary works and photo exhibition on China-India cultural exchanges during the New Delhi World Book Fair.

In order to further relations in the tourism sector, the Chinese side has decided to hold a “Beautiful China” photo exhibition in India while Indian side to hold an “Incredible India” photo exhibition in various cities of China and publish a collection of the exhibits.
