India holds bilateral talks with Russia, agree to work closely on UNSC issues

New Delhi (NVI): India and Russia held bilateral consultations yesterday on United Nations Security Council (UNSC) issues in Moscow at the DG level and agreed to work closely on key issues on the UNSC agenda, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

During the consultations, both sides agreed to work closely together on key issues on the UNSC agenda, in keeping with the special and privileged strategic partnership, the MEA said in a statement.

The Indian delegation briefed the Russian side on its priorities during its UNSC tenure.

According to the MEA, “Prakash Gupta, Joint Secretary (UNP and Summits) led the Indian delegation along with officials from Embassy of India in Moscow.”

On the other hand, the Russian delegation was led by Peter Ilichev, Director of the Department of International Organizations of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation.

Furthermore, the two nations also appreciated intensive on-going bilateral contacts on UN issues, including with respect to wide range of issues on the UNSC agenda, the MEA added.
