New Delhi (NVI): India recorded 1,15,736 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the highest daily increase so far. The overall tally has now climbed to 12,801,785, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.
The death count climbed to 1,66,177 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 630 lives during this period, the data showed.
Yesterday, India had recorded 96,982 new coronavirus cases. Apart from that, 446 new COVID-19 fatalities were reported across the country.
Currently, more than 1.17 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,792,135.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 8,43,473 with an increase of 55,250 cases in the last 24 hours.
Of the 1,15,736 cases India counted on Tuesday, over 55,000 infections were reported from Maharashtra, while Chhattisgarh scaled a new peak of 9,921 cases.
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (31,13,354), Kerala (11,41,092), Karnataka (10,26,584), Andhra Pradesh (9,10,943), and Tamil Nadu (9,07,124).
The Centre on Tuesday said India’s Covid-19 cases were spreading faster than last time, and the next four weeks would be critical in controlling the second wave of the disease.
