India logs over 22,000 new Covid-19 cases, 126 fatalities

New Delhi (NVI): With 22,854 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the overall tally has climbed to 11,285,561, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,58,189 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 126 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.41 percent.

Currently, more than 1.09 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 10,938,146, which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 96.92 percent.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 1,89,226 which now comprises 1.68 percent of the total infections.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 22,52,057 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 10,83,530 and Karnataka with 9,56,801 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,91,004), Tamil Nadu (8,56,917), Delhi (6,42,030) and Uttar Pradesh (6,04,648).

Meanwhile, more than 2.43 crore (2,43,67,906) COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered through 3,39,145 sessions across the States and Union Territories so far, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHWF) informed.

More than 13.5 lakh vaccine doses were given in the last 24 hours, out of which 10,60,944 beneficiaries were vaccinated across 52,351 sessions for the first dose (HCWs and FLWs) and 2,98,229 HCWs and FLWs received a second dose of vaccine.
