India records 12,143 new COVID cases, tally nears 10.9 million

New Delhi (NVI): India registered 12,143 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,08,92,746, according to Union Health Ministry data.

103 new COVID-19 fatalities have been reported across the country, taking the death toll to 1,55,550.

However, the daily new COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to follow a downward slide.

Currently, more than 1.06 crore patients have been cured an recovered across the country, while the active cases dropped to 1.36 lakh mark and stands at 1,36,571.

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increased to 20,56,573 followed by Kerala with 9,94,052 and Karnataka with 9,44,437 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh, (8,88,760), Tamil Nadu (8,44,173), Delhi (6,36,670) and Uttar Pradesh (6,02,001).

Meanwhile, 79,67,647 have been vaccinated against COVID-19 till 29th day of inoculation drive, the Health Ministry data shows. In addition to this, healthcare workers to get second shot of vaccine beginning from today.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, over 20.5 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to February 13. Of these 7,43,614 were tested yesterday.

Apart from this, India has supplied 229 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines to various countries so far and will continue to take forward the global vaccine supply initiative and cover more countries in a phased manner, the government has said.
