India records 13,993 new Covid cases, tally tops 10.97 mn

New Delhi (NVI): India registered 13,993 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,09,77,387, according to Union Health Ministry data.

101 new COVID-19 fatalities have been reported across the country, taking the death toll to 1,56,212.

However, the daily new COVID-19 cases and deaths again started to see a upward slide in India.

Currently, a total of 1,06,78,048 patients have been cured an recovered across the country, while the active cases dropped to 1.43 lakh mark and stands at 1,43,127.

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increased to 20,87,632 followed by Kerala with 10,25,937 and Karnataka with 9,47,246 positive cases. The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh, (8,89,156), Tamil Nadu (8,47,385), Delhi (6,37,603) and Uttar Pradesh (6,02,592).

In another development, over 1.07 crore (1,07,15,204) healthcare and frontline have been vaccinated against COVID-19 since the beginning of vaccination drive in India, the Health Ministry data shows.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, more than 21 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to February 19. Of these, 7,86,618 samples were tested yesterday,

Apart from this, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan yesterday appealed to the medical community and the frontline workers like the anganwadi workers, police personnel, revenue officials to come forward and take the COVID-19 vaccine.
