India records 16,311 COVID cases, 161 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi (NVI): The total number of coronavirus cases in India have crossed the 10.4 million-mark and currently stands at 10,466,559 with an increase of 16,311 cases in the last 24 hours, according to Union Health Ministry data.

The country’s death toll has gone up to 1,51,160 with 161 fatalities registered during this period.

Notably, more than 10 million people have recovered from the virus and the total recoveries currently stands at 10,092,909 while active Covid-19 cases have dropped further to 2.22 lakh mark and stands at 2,22,526.

In terms of active coronavirus cases, India now stands at the 14th spot globally.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with total 19,69,114 confirmed Covid-19 cases which include 50,061 deaths. The active cases in the state stand at 55,351 and 18,63,702 recoveries.

It is followed by Karnataka (9,27,559), Andhra Pradesh (8,84,916), Tamil Nadu (8,26,261) and Kerala (8,11,148).

Furthermore, total number of samples tested up to January 10 is 18,17,55,831 including 6,59,209 samples tested yesterday, according to ICMR.
