New Delhi (NVI): With 16,838 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the overall tally has climbed to 11,173,761, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.
The death count climbed to 1,57,548 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 113 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.41 percent.
Currently, more than 1.08 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 10,839,894, which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.01 percent.
Meanwhile, there are 1,76,319 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, nearly half of which, more than 86,000, are in Maharashtra. The active caseload accounts for 1.58 percent of the total infections.
Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 21,88,183 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 10,69,660 and Karnataka with 9,53,136 positive cases.
The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,90,317), Tamil Nadu (8,53,449), Delhi (6,40,182) and Uttar Pradesh (6,03,907).
At the same time, nearly 17.14 lakh people – from India’s general population – have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine in the first four days of the second phase, as the country’s vaccination graph continues to improve.
