New Delhi (NVI): In yet another biggest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases, India recorded 1,68,912 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours. The overall tally has now climbed to 13,527,717, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.
The death count climbed to 1,70,179 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 904 lives during this period, the data showed.
India is battling the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic and is currently the third worst-hit country, in terms of infection, in the world.
Yesterday, India had recorded 1,52,879 new coronavirus cases. Apart from that, 839 new COVID-19 fatalities were reported across the country.
Currently, more than 12.1 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 12,156,529.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 12,01,009 with an increase of 92,922 cases in the last 24 hours.
Of the 1,68,912 cases, India counted on Sunday, more than 63,000 infections were reported from Maharashtra, while Delhi reported more than 10,000 cases.
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (34,07,245), Kerala (11,67,190), Karnataka (10,65,290), Andhra Pradesh (9,25,401), and Tamil Nadu (9,33,434).
